Why is the 'stock available field' greyed out?

The 'stock available' field can sometimes be greyed out and therefore not editable.

There are 2 reasons possible:

- 'Track quantity' option is disabled: enable to manage stock on products

- The product uses variants: stock is managed on variants and not on the parent product. The quantity value displayed corresponds to the total quantity of all variants for that product
